Baseboard Installation

The clean edge that makes a new floor look finished.

Baseboards are the frame around every floor we install, and the detail most contractors rush. We remove old trim carefully, install new boards with tight miters and invisible scarf joints, then caulk, fill, and paint-touch every seam so the line between wall and floor disappears.

Choose from modern flat-stock, classic colonial, or tall contemporary profiles in primed MDF or solid wood. Pair baseboard installation with any flooring project for a single-visit, single-crew finish, or book it on its own to refresh rooms that already have good floors.

All questions

How much does baseboard installation cost?

Baseboard is quoted by the linear foot, so the main driver is simply how much wall you have, an average three-bedroom home runs to a few hundred feet. Beyond that, taller and more detailed profiles cost more than flat stock because the corners take longer to cope. Our quote always includes pulling the old trim, filling and caulking, not just the new boards.

Should baseboards go in before or after flooring?

After, in almost every case. Installing the floor first lets us hold the expansion gap the flooring needs at the perimeter and then cover it with the baseboard, which is exactly what the gap is for. Baseboard fitted first means either shoe moulding to hide the gap, or a floor with nowhere to move.

MDF or solid wood baseboard?

Primed MDF for anywhere dry: it is straighter than wood, it does not have knots to bleed through paint, and it costs less. Solid wood where it will get wet or knocked, bathrooms, laundry rooms, entryways. Because MDF swells irreversibly if water sits against the bottom edge. Most homes we do are MDF throughout with wood in the wet rooms.
